"Poems… make nice gifts
and they never
need to be walked or fed."
~ Karla Kuskin,
in The Place My Words are Looking For
I have given poems as gifts on occasion. Most recently, I wrote a poem for my dad, for Father's Day. He is always so hard to buy for, and I didn't have much money, so I decided to write a heartfelt poem about all the things he's done for me over the years, and how I appreciate them (and him) so much. Dad told me later that the poem really meant a lot to him, more than anything I could have bought from a store. :)
