"Even such common articles
as coat hangers
can take on unexpected dimensions
within the realm of a poem;
and if this can happen with coat hangers,
then the world must be filled
with other 'ordinary' subjects
just waiting for poetry to come along
and reveal their extraordinary selves."
~ Valerie Worth,
in The Place My Words are Looking For
I love this quote -- it is so true. The world is filled with seemingly ordinary objects, but if we would only look at them with a poet's eyes, we'd realize just how extraordinary they really are! What common place things can you think of that would make good poem subjects?
