August Ice Cream Cone

It's only two words long, but this poem (along with its title) conveys a lot. I read it and in my mind I can see the ice cream, melting in the sunshine. I can feel the heat of the day, the stickiness of the cone, and the cold on my tongue. I can hear giggles and smacks of satisfaction. I can taste the creamy, minty goodness. (In my mind, it's a chocolate chip mint cone.) What comes to your mind when you read it?
Do you think you could write a two-word poem that would paint an image in someone's mind? If you do write one, please share it -- I'd love to read it! :)

I'm teaching Grade 3 for the first time this year, and needed a collection of poems that I could share with children that age. Funny poems that show how it can be fun to play with words, and poems that use language to paint images in the mind of the reader.
Well, I feel like I've hit the jackpot!
Thank you for thoughtfully compiling all these wonderful poems! I stayed up way too late last night, and a bit more today, but I think I've now read every post tagged "poetry," and I have quite a collection of poems that I think will be great!
I've also put a bunch of books on hold at my library, so they can read some direct from the source.

DeleteThird grade is a great age (my youngest will be starting 4th on Monday) -- I hope that the kids in your class enjoy the poems and learn to love words and poetry!
