“Words create the images
that make poems come alive.
And the possibilities
for words are endless.
You can shade and color them
with meanings.
You can mold them, like clay,
in different ways.
You can put them
in nearly any order.
And when you listen closely,
words contain an orchestra of sound.”
~ Jennifer Fandel,
from Understanding Poetry:
Puns, Allusions, and Other Word Secrets
I really like the image of molding words like clay and also the orchestra of sound found in the the words of a poem. Just reading this quote makes me want to grab a pen and paper and start creating!
