When I first read this quote years ago, I pictured someone walking around with a small suitcase (or maybe a fancy bag like the one above) filled with slips of scrawled-on paper -- poems just waiting to be finished. The image makes me smile. I know that I have often carried poems I'm working on around in my head. Have you?
