The days grow warm and soft.

An excerpt:

The early summer days on a farm are the happiest and fairest days of the year.  Lilacs bloom and make the air sweet, and then fade.  Apple blossoms come with the lilacs, and the bees visit around among the apple trees.  The days grow warm and soft.  School ends, and children have time to play and to fish for trouts in the brook.

When I was little, my grandparents lived on a farm similar to Wilbur's home in E.B. White's beloved classic,  Charlotte's Web.  I loved to visit Grandma and Grandpa there, especially in the summer when the days were "warm and soft" -- it was my favorite spot on earth.  Beautiful June days always remind me of the farm.  What do these days in late spring/early summer bring to your mind?

  1. Oh I love Charlotte's Web!
I grew up in the country, we had a farm but the only animals we had were cows. I think my parents had pigs & chickens at one time. Warm & soft is a good description of the farm at this time of year.

This time of year brings a garden to my mind, we always had a big garden with lots of fresh vegetables all summer! I miss the taste of a fresh picked homegrown tomato!

  2. Oh, yes, I think of gardens, too! I mostly have experience growing flowers, but we're attempting to grow some tomatoes and other things in our little vegetable garden this year. :)
