~ Amy Ludwig VanDerwater

Today is the last day of school for my kids.  (Actually, it's their last hour of school.  I never have understood why they only go for one hour on the last day -- what's the point?)  Anyway, while searching for an appropriate "school's out" poem, I found this one. (And it led me to another great find  -- see below.)  I thought it was perfect for today, and I'm so excited to share it with you!

Amy Ludwig VanDerwater is a writer and teacher, living in the state of New York.  I absolutely love her poetry, and encourage you all to check out her blog, The Poem Farm.  Since stumbling across it a few weeks ago, I have been returning to the blog again and again, to read posts old and new, and to soak up inspiration from Amy's many wonderful poems there. (I am also looking forward to reading her first book of poetry, Forest Has a Song, scheduled to be published by Clarion in March of 2013.)  A big THANK YOU to Amy for kindly allowing me to post her poem here! :)

(Psst... if you haven't read about the Big Blue Birthday Contest yet, please check out this post.)
